General Summary:
The Construction Laborer position is a seasonal position that offers versatile support for smooth operations in all phases of construction projects including but not limited to: assist construction foreman and crew; safely operate hand and power tools and miscellaneous equipment safely; prep and keep work sites clean; load/unload materials; excavate manually with tools; and prepare and complete trenches. The Construction Laborer will fully restore the work site at completion of project. A successful candidate must be exceedingly well-organized, motivated, possess a strong work ethic, and enjoy the day-to-day challenges of construction operations. The Construction Laborer will follow safety regulations and be able to take instructions. Additionally, the successful candidate will possess the ability to positively interact with the public and staff in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, while remaining calm, focused, resourceful and efficient.
Essential Job Functions:
- Offers support in all phases of construction including but not limited to assisting construction foreman and crew, safely operate hand and power tools, prep and keep work sites clean, load/unload materials as needed, excavate manually with tools, prepare and complete trenches
- Ensures all equipment is maintained and used in accordance with company safety regulations
- Ensures equipment is properly positioned before turning it on and off, or loading and unloading
- Assists with routine and preventive equipment maintenance and regular safety checks on equipment
- Ensures sites are kept clean and safe
- Maintains current industry knowledge by utilizing various resources and attending training
- Works with safety awareness of the considerable hazards related to construction and maintenance
- Uses protective equipment and safety practices.
- Regular, reliable, consistent and punctual attendance is required
- Responsible for duties as described in the general summary and any/all other duties as assigned by manager and/or supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic electronics, digital technology, and preventive maintenance
- Basic knowledge of construction industry
- Ability to follow company policies and procedures
- Skill in operating various heavy machinery and construction equipment
- Basic writing skills to accurately complete reports and other paperwork
- Ability to communicate with co-workers, customers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals
- Ability to pay close attention to detail
- Ability to evaluate, test and repair equipment
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions using information at hand
- Ability to effectively function as a team player
- Ability to perform duties in a safe, professional manner
- Highly motivated and a self-starter with willingness to learn
- Possess Driver's License. A valid and clear driving record required.
Education and Experience:
A high school Diploma/GED. General laborer experience preferred. Will train the right candidate.
