Description & Details: The North Dakota State University School of Education seeks an outstanding administrator as Head of Education. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated significant achievement and distinction in teaching, scholarship/creative work, and service, sufficient to warrant appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This is a tenure-eligible, 11-month appointment anticipated to begin in January 2026.

The Head of the School of Education will provide overall leadership for the school, including academic programs, faculty, budgets, facilities, and personnel. Below is an unranked list of responsibilities of this position which includes, but is not limited to:

• Provide administrative and academic leadership in the area of planning, management, and program development and evaluation in graduate, undergraduate, and service areas.
• Ensure successful re-accreditation of all accredited programs in the School of Education.
• Foster creativity among faculty, promote scholarly activity, encourage research and/or creative activity, and maintain the School's positive relationship within the University and with local, state, and national units.
• Serve as a visible leader and strong advocate for NDSU's School of Education across the state of North Dakota and region.
• Work with faculty to assess the need for curriculum development in each undergraduate and graduate program area, as well as providing vision for new areas of need.
• Build and maintain a positive and supportive working environment.
• Prepare and administer the SOE annual budget.
• Report to SOE staff and faculty twice a year on budget allocations.
• Supervise and evaluate the work and performance of each staff member.
• Assess and make recommendations specific to faculty tenure and advancements in rank.
• Recommend changes in salary, leaves of absence, sabbaticals, dismissals, retirements and other matters affecting unit personnel to the Dean.
• Assign areas of work responsibilities to each staff member with input from the unit staff.
• Prepare unit reports required by the Dean and other administrative officers.
• Recommend the purchase and maintenance of adequate and appropriate equipment and be responsible for all equipment and supplies assigned to the unit.
• Serve on college and university committees as appropriate. Extend service to the community as appropriate to enhance the image of the unit, college, and university.
• Serve on the Dean's Leadership team.
• Strengthen ties with all associate teacher education faculty.
• Meet regularly with SOE directors and attend program area meetings.

Hiring Range:

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctorate or terminal degree in the candidate's field of study or discipline
• Leadership experience in higher education
• Demonstrated ability to lead groups of people effectively
• Evidence of effective oral and written communication
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively
• A demonstrated ability to conduct research and/or creative activities
• Passion for education and educator development
• Rank of Associate or Full Professor

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge and experience addressing issues of community & collaboration
• Demonstrated ability to establish or maintain a supportive and collaborative environment
• Demonstrated experience enhancing teams, including conflict management
• Demonstrated ability to support and enhance teaching and student learning
• Demonstrated commitment to student success
• Knowledge and/or experience with accreditation
• If associate professor, a clear trajectory for promotion to professor
