As a Project Engineer at Sandman Structural Engineers (SSE), you are responsible for managing projects and guiding other engineers and technicians to enable the success of our clients and our people.
Core Responsibilities
1. Design and Technical Expertise - 75%
Facilitate the development of clear and comprehensive designs that meet current technical standards and regulations.
Key Activities:
- Ensure clear and comprehensive designs that comply with current technical standards and regulations
- Produce precise solutions for clients by applying knowledge and experience through confidence and ability
- Design a complete project, system, component, or process (as assigned)
- Prepare complete project documents
- Design and conduct experiments; analyze and interpret data
- Analyze problems and find effective solutions to solve them
- Work on projects of all sizes and work on several projects concurrently
2. Project Management - 10%Optimize project efficiency, profitability, and timely delivery to maximize client satisfaction.
Key Activities:
- Coordinate project schedules with Team Leader and/or Lead Engineer
- Assist Team Leader and/or Lead Engineer in preparing for project kick-off meetings
- Adhere to established project processes
- Maintain project accounting records in real-time
- Coordinate detailed aspects of the engineering work
- Assist with proposals to provide professional services to obtain funding for engineering projects and programs
3. Client Relationships - 5%Create and maintain trusting relationships with clients to maintain/increase client satisfaction and retention.
Key Activities:
- Maintain strong client relationships through consistent and professional communication
- Understand client work pipeline
- Prepare and participate in project meetings in a professional manner
- Understand each clients' requirements and expectations
- Stay current with clients via check-ins
- Review and recap project success with clients
4. Mentorship - 5%Mentor structural designers and technicians through principles of leading by example, humility, and collaboration.
Key Activities:
- Mentor less experienced team members based on humility and trust with a high expectation of hard work and two-way communication
- Willingly answer questions in a manner that is conducive to the others' ability to learn and improve their skill set(s).
5. Administration - 5%Ensure project information and communication is documented and retained properly. Record time and milestones accurately into project management software system.
Key Activities:
- Ensure documents and emails are filed appropriately
- Accurately record and completion percentage
Qualifications Required: - Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
- 4+ years of structural engineering
- experience with clear progression in responsibility
- Engineer in Training (EIT) required; Active Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Proficient use of the English language, both verbal and written, and adaptable to all audiences
- Physically able to conduct field inspections and testing as assigned
- Maintain a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record
Compensation: The starting hourly compensation for this role is $35-$46. A variety of factors are considered when determining an offer including, but not limited to, market data, geographic location, experience, education, and specialized skills.

Environmental Conditions:Office environment; field environment; construction site environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions when conducting field inspections and investigations.
