The ND Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (ND DOCR), Parole, Probation, & Pretrial Services is looking for a Full-Time Peer Support Specialist in Fargo, ND. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will share personal and practical experience, knowledge, and first-hand insight to benefit DOCR clients.
The position is full-time, with 40-hour work weeks. Starting salary is$21.00/hour and includes family health insurance with no monthly premium cost to you. Although this position is designated as temporary, it is on-going in duration.Join our team today!
Summary of Work
This position will perform duties under Parole, Probation, & Pretrial Services which includes providing peer support and assistance to individuals who have a history of or current substance use disorder or mental health needs.
Duties and Tasks
Engagement and Support: Meet with clients referred by PPPS officers, case managers, and corrections agents to assist them in engaging in recovery services, building supportive community connections, and achieving personal recovery goals. In this role, you may also assist with crisis response.
Communication: Communicate with PPPS officers, case managers and corrections agents regarding treatment needs the client may have. Utilize core correctional practices and personal lived experience to facilitate, support, and inspire positive behavior changes.
Community Engagement: Build relationships with treatment providers and community stakeholders to enhance access, knowledge and delivery of services.
Peer Support Groups: Facilitate peer recovery support groups.
Minimum Qualifications
To thrive in this position, you must have at least two years of personal recovery, have a strong desire to assist others achieve personal recovery, be knowledgeable about resources offered in your community, and prefer working with clients in community-based setting or office environment.
To be considered for the Peer Support Specialist position, it is preferred you meet the following:
Self-identify as an individual who has personal lived experience regarding recovery and is willing to publicly identify as an individual in recovery.
At least eighteen years of age. Have a high school diploma or general equivalency. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read and write at a level proficient enough for training, documentation, and the type of work peer support will require. Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel to meet clients at their location.
Ability to successfully complete a defensive driving course within 6 months of hire. Successful completion of a DOCR approved Peer Support Specialist Training Program within 6 months of hire.
