Invasives Species Intern

This job posting will be open until filled and will hire two individuals. This is a seasonal, full-time (40 hours/week) position anticipated to start May 18th, 2026 and end on August 14th, 2026. This position is based out of Glyndon, Minnesota at TNCs Bluestem Prairie Preserve. Housing and basic utilities are provided at TNCs Bluestem Prairie to the employee upon signing and agreeing to housing terms. The value of the housing will be considered taxable income (vs. charged rent.) Hourly rate range: $15.51 - $16.45/hour dependent on experience.

What We Can Achieve Together: As one of our Invasives Species Interns (ISI), you will work in the Agassiz Beach Ridges and Sheyenne Delta Landscapes in the Northern Tallgrass Prairie Ecoregion (western Minnesota and eastern North Dakota, respectively) as part of a crew managing prairie and oak savannah tracts. You will maintain preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and perform duties such as vegetation management (herbicide applications, brush removal, tree removal, mowing, biological control, etc.), equipment and tool maintenance and organization, hand collecting native prairie seed, firebreak installation, boundary posting, fencing, prairie restorations, and assist with prescribed fires. You may also implement duties on partner lands such as the Minnesota DNR, USFS, and USFWS-owned properties. You will primarily focus on treating and removing invasive plant species through the vegetation management techniques listed above. As part of TNCs commitment to ongoing professional development, you will also help with a wide range of stewardship activities including but not limited to equipment maintenance and organization, prescribed fire, hand collecting native prairie seed, fencing and boundary posting. You will be expected to work independently and in a team environment to help plan and direct preserve work groups. You will regularly work with a 2-5 person crew. This position may require considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.

What Youll Bring: High school diploma or GED and 6 months of related experience. Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment). Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application). Must have valid drivers license and good driving record and able to obtain a DOT Health card. Desired Qualifications Ability to follow instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members. Ability to work in a team environment. This position requires a valid drivers license and compliance with TNCs Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered high risk drivers. Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employees motor vehicle record.

Salary Information: The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $15.51 - $16.45/hour. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidates actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidates location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
