Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute:
The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) is a research, education, and outreach center at North Dakota State University, which is guided, in part, by an advisory council composed of representatives of various organizations, industries, and agencies affecting or affected by transportation. Our mission is to provide innovative transportation research, education, and outreach that promote the safe and efficient movement of people and goods. In addition, our areas of concentration are:
Research - Conducting applied and advanced research in highway, transit, rail, air, and waterway transportation that addresses the critical issues of the state, region, and nation.
Education - Educating the transportation workforce of tomorrow through multidisciplinary curricula that focus on transportation economics, management, infrastructure planning, mobility, and supply chain logistics.
Outreach - Improving the skills and knowledge of the existing workforce through training, technical assistance, and the transfer of research results to practitioners.

Description & Details: The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) at NDSU is seeking candidates for a GIS Specialist position. The primary objectives of this position are to: (1) Support ongoing GIS data development, spatial analysis and data visualization across a variety transportation and safety research projects; (2) Import, analyze and interpret data, ensure quality control, and compile results in an organized, orderly format; (3) Create publication-quality maps and figures along with dashboards to effectively communicate study efforts and results and assist in the preparation of reports and presentations; (4) Work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and effectively communicate ideas, opinions and solutions related to current and future project activities. This position is supported with grant funding. Continued employment is dependent upon the renewal and availability of grant funds.
Work Schedule: TBD
Hiring Range: $50,000 $70,000 DOE
Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, Associate's with 3 years of experience, or 5 years of experience without a degree
- U.S. Citizen
- Strong background in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
- Experience with GIS dashboard development
- ESRI Certification
- Knowledge of programming in Python, R or Visual Basic
- Knowledge of SQL and ArcGIS Services
- Experience with ArcGIS Experience Builder
- Experience with spatial analysis
- Experience working with Transportation GIS applications
