Assistant Total Station Technician

Description:

The Assistant Total Station Technician will be responsible for the operation of the total station process for field layout to prepare detailed drawings and models for erection. In addition to the duties related to the Total Station process, this position will also entail assisting in the field with the erection of precast concrete wall panels. This role will work in a combination of areas and will take direction from both Engineering and Field Supervisors and Foreman as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Create point files from coordinated models for export into prefabrication documentation and for input into the total station machine.
  • Operate the total station machine in the field for project layout.
  • Communicate with foreman to ensure project design requirements and field needs are met.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Read and interpret structural and architectural precast drawings and details
  • Manage and maintain all calibration certifications for applicable equipment.
  • Be available as a resource for problem solving issues related to total station layout.
  • Maintain current and accurate project layout schedules as well as forecasting for upcoming projects.
  • Coordinate with general contractors to survey and develop control points
  • Closely communicate with internal leadership and general contractors
  • In addition to Total Station tasks, this position would also be responsible for helping with the erection of precast concrete panels on job sites.
  • Additional duties will be assigned as needed.
Education Requirements

Required:
  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Certification or AS/AAS degree in Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a similar field preferred
  • Relevant experience will be considered in place of a degree or certification
Experience Requirements

Required:
  • Previous experience with SolidWorks, 3D Lift Plan, REVIT or an equivalent CAD software program is preferred.
  • Must be self-motivated with exceptional communication, decision making, and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Ability to problem solve within both a team approach and individually.
  • Ability to use a computer and understand all Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to travel (50%+).
  • On the job training will be provided for the right candidates.
