Position Overview

As an Animal Care Team Member, you will ensure exceptional animal care and husbandry for all companion animals and aquatic life at the Pet Care Center (PCC). Acting as a primary resource in animal care, you will help achieve our budgeted sales and internal goals while ensuring efficient operations in collaboration with the sales team to meet guests' needs. Your passion for animal health and welfare will shine as you work within a dedicated team.

Position Responsibilities

Key duties include:

• Demonstrating a strong interest in animal welfare and possessing comprehensive knowledge of companion animals and aquatic care.
• Ensuring all animals in the PCC receive proper care, completing maintenance records and health checks as required.
• Processing register transactions to enhance the guest experience.
• Supporting sales interactions and ensuring effective merchandising and inventory strategies.
• Completing ongoing training programs to enhance expertise and educate team members.
• Fostering a culture of collaboration and teamwork.
• Adhering to operational guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Acting as a resource for guests and team members regarding animal care.
• Ordering animals, supplies, and merchandise efficiently, aiming to maximize sales and inventory control.
• Performing housekeeping tasks to maintain the professionalism and cleanliness of animal habitats.
• Documenting the handling of relinquished and adopted animals.
• Participating in physical inventory counts.
• Promoting safety and loss prevention procedures.
• Completing additional duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants must have at least one year of experience with companion animals and aquatic life, along with a solid understanding of animal care. Good interpersonal skills, a professional demeanor, and genuine interest in animal welfare are essential.

Certification

Completion of Petco Animal Care Certification is required for this position.

Education/Skills

A high school diploma or equivalent is needed, along with proficiency in basic mathematics and communication skills.

Supervisory Role

• Responsible for the correct opening and closing of the Pet Care Center in accordance with established procedures.
• Must uphold and promote safety for all partners, guests, and pets.

Work Environment

Most responsibilities are conducted indoors, though some tasks may require stepping outside for guest assistance or veterinary visits. The position requires bending, kneeling, and moving supplies up to 50 pounds, necessitating adherence to safety protocols. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is essential.
