A Packaging Technician I is responsible for the advanced operation and troubleshooting of Packaging & Warehouse equipment, including bulk loading equipment and controls, Industrial and high-speed consumer packaging lines, and all associated packaging and bulk loading equipment (Palletizer, wrapper, metal detectors, magnets, robots, coding equipment), including work area troubleshooting. In addition, a Packaging Technician I possesses knowledge in shipping, logistics and warehouse operations to be able to assist when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set up, operate, and maintain high-speed packaging lines, conveying systems, palletizers, and related equipment.
• Maintain bulk loading and shipping equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation.
• Troubleshoot and perform mechanical repairs, with minor electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting as needed.
• Coordinate with production and maintenance to configure lines for specific products and meet production goals.
• Ensure safe operation, sanitation, lubrication, proper coding, correct weights, and overall product quality.
• Inspect incoming packaging materials and complete required reports, logs, and SAP notifications/work orders.
• Train packaging employees on proper equipment operation and assist vendors during maintenance activities.
• Perform lab tests, maintain a clean work area, support GMP/HACCP/CQP requirements, and complete additional duties as required.
Job Requirements:
• A high school diploma or a GED certificate is required
• A two-year industrial technical degree & 1 year of work experience within the Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or electronic/instrumentation industry.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English to comprehend and interpret technical literature, reference material, and understand SDS information.
• Leadership ability/experience.
• Available to work overtime as needed.
Testing:
• Selected candidates are required to submit to and successfully pass a Safety Screen that evaluates their ability to safely execute the duties and responsibilities of the position.
PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to work independently and in a team environment. Must be able to communicate effectively and have training/knowledge in emergency evacuation procedures. Must know and understand all current GMP's, safety rules/procedures, and SDS information as they apply to the packaging area and packaging of food products. GMP and PPE equipment are required and provided. Occasional exposure to noise levels above 85dB. Airborne sugar dust varies from light to heavy depending on the area. Exposed to the outdoor environment, temperatures will vary from cool to moderately hot. Personal protective equipment must be worn as required and properly fit-tested for use with dust respirators.
