About the Role
Our firm is hiring an Engineering Technician on behalf of a well established municipal engineering consulting organization that supports public infrastructure projects across the Upper Midwest. This role supports the planning, design, and construction of municipal infrastructure improvements, including roadways and utilities. The position offers a mix of office based CADD work and field support, with opportunities to grow technical and construction observation skills while working closely with engineers and project managers. The Engineering Technician provides CADD drafting and field support for municipal infrastructure projects, applying basic civil engineering design principles and construction methods in both office and field environments. This role works collaboratively within a project team and may support construction activities as a resident project representative during active construction seasons.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing detailed drawings and design layouts using AutoCAD and Civil 3D based on sketches, redlines, and survey data
- Assisting project managers, engineers, and lead technicians in developing plans and specifications
- Calculating dimensions, quantities, profiles, and material takeoffs using computer software and calculators
- Producing graphics and drawings for reports, proposals, and project presentations
- Following internal and client CADD standards and procedures
- Supporting construction observation, inspection, surveying, and materials testing efforts
- Serving as a resident project representative or owner's representative during construction projects as assigned
- Communicating effectively with contractors, clients, the public, and internal teams
- Documenting construction progress, quantities, and field activities using electronic record systems
- Attending project, client, and internal meetings
- Complying with safety policies and performing work in a legal, ethical, and detail?oriented manner
- Participating in training to build technical and professional skills
- Traveling and working overtime as needed, particularly during construction season
- Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required - High school diploma or equivalent
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D, or willingness to become proficient
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
- Willingness to work in outdoor construction environments and travel for project needs
- Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform prolonged standing and walking as required
Preferred - Associate degree in Engineering Technology or a technical degree in drafting
- Experience supporting municipal or civil infrastructure projects
- Exposure to additional CADD or GIS tools such as SketchUp Pro or ArcGIS
- Experience with construction observation or inspection activities
