The Opportunity:

We are working with a leading manufacturer of advanced gas analysis instrumentation in the hiring of a Technical Sales Engineer to support continued growth. The organization specializes in laser-based sensing technologies used in environmental monitoring, industrial process control, and emissions measurement. Backed by a larger parent organization, the company is undergoing a period of transformation to enhance operations and scale its market presence.

This role is ideal for a motivated and technically proficient sales professional to lead direct sales efforts across North and South America. It is a quota-carrying position with a competitive commission structure designed to reward strong performance. The successful candidate will serve as the primary commercial contact for a diverse customer base, including industrial operators, government agencies, and research organizations.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with gas sensing technologies and the ability to translate technical capabilities into clear customer value. This position requires regular travel to support business needs of about 40%.

What you'll be doing:

  • Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation through deal closure for direct accounts across the Americas.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities across key sectors, including industrial, utilities, environmental, and government.
  • Conduct technical presentations and product demonstrations, translating performance specifications into application-specific benefits.
  • Develop and deliver proposals, negotiate commercial terms, and secure customer orders.
  • Create and execute territory plans focused on high-value verticals such as oil & gas, utilities, environmental monitoring, and industrial applications.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities in underpenetrated regions and market segments.
  • Strengthen relationships with existing customers to drive repeat business and account growth.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, trade shows, and customer site visits.
  • Gather and communicate market intelligence, including competitive activity, pricing trends, and emerging applications, to internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to marketing initiatives, including campaigns, technical content, webinars, and event coordination.
  • Collaborate with engineering, applications, and customer support teams to ensure customer requirements are clearly defined and achievable.
  • Provide structured field feedback to inform product roadmap decisions, including new features, configurations, and target applications.
  • Partner with operations and finance teams to manage order processing, delivery timelines, and customer expectations.
What you'll need to be successful:
  • 5+ years of direct sales experience in analytical instrumentation, gas sensing, or environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Strong technical background in gas-phase analysis, ideally laser-based methods or similar sensing technologies.
  • Familiarity with portable, fixed, and mobile gas detection systems and their use across different application environments.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding sales targets in a direct, quota-carrying role.
  • Experience managing complex B2B sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders (e.g., procurement, engineering, operations, EHS).
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% across the Americas.
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., chemistry, physics, engineering).
Nice to have's:
  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Direct hands-on experience with laser-based gas analysis platforms or comparable technologies.
  • Established industry relationships within industrial, utilities, or environmental compliance markets.
